Haughton High alum and current Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott is in the midst of negotiating a new deal with the Boys. Under his rookie deal, Dak was making an average of $680,000 per season. Now, according to reports, Prescott is looking for a huge payday. Dak wants 34 MILLION dollars a season.

I just want to say this up front: Jerry Jones has said he's all in on the 25 year old QB. Which gives Dak a lot of leverage in negotiations. If you know the big guy is on your side, why not ask for the moon? Now, with that said, there is NO WAY I'd pay Dak that much money per season. Especially not right now.

At this point in time, Dak has been good but not great. He's a solid starter, no doubt but he's far from being an elite player like an Aaron Rodgers or even Russel Wilson. He hasn't brought the Cowboys any hardware, they really haven't advanced much since the Tony Romo era...he just hasn't show me anything worthy of a huge payday.

Now, according to NFL insiders, the price of quarterbacks is about to sky rocket. They say that a mid-level QB will be making the in the 30 million dollar range. Which would put Dak in that 30-40 million dollar range. In fact, many are saying the longer the Cowboys negotiate this extension, the more money it is going to cost them in the long run.

So, I guess the question becomes: "Is there a better option for the Cowboys?" Off hand, honestly, I'm going to say no. I can't think of a guy that's available, affordable and dependable. One of the hardest things to do in the NFL is find a starting QB. For every Tom Brady there's two dozen Johnny Manziels.

Dak is basically Trent Dilfer for a new generation. He's solid, dependable, he is going to win you more games than he'll lose. ...but he's definitely not a superstar. Does that make him worth 30+ million a year? My gut says no...but we'll see how the Cowboys play it over the coming weeks and months.
