A monster announcement has folks in northwest Louisiana talking. Amazon is moving quickly to build multiple state-of-the-art data center campuses across Caddo and Bossier Parishes. The proposal calls for a $12 billion dollar investment.

Thousands of jobs will be available during the construction phase and local businesses will be gearing up to try to get some of this work.

Shreveport Chamber of Commerce President Tim Magner tells KEEL News this will involve all kinds of businesses from electricians to steel suppliers to caterers and so much more. He says the opportunities are endless.

This project is expected to create over 6,000 construction jobs and 540 high-paying permanent positions.

How Local Businesses Can Get Involved

Local businesses will have the chance to join in on this "digital gold rush" by providing products and services during the construction phase.

Tier 1&2 Contractors

This will include large-scale construction from HVAC to electrical, plumbing and more.

Support Services:

Small businesses providing catering, site security, transportation, and professional services (legal, engineering, environmental) will also be in demand during this construction.

What Amazon Requires from Businesses

Companies should be "bid-ready." This means you should have all licenses up-to-date and be in compliance with state regulations. You also must meet high-level insurance requirements and safety certifications.

How to Learn More About Doing Business with Amazon

The North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP) is hosting a series of "Business Gatherings" to guide local entrepreneurs through the procurement process. These sessions will feature representatives from STACK Infrastructure and AWS to discuss vendor registration and upcoming RFP (Request for Proposal) timelines.

A couple of preliminary meetings were held this week, but several others are planned in the coming weeks.

You can always check the NLEP project portal right here to stay up to date about vendor registration and updates regarding the three specific sites: Resilient Tech Park (Greenwood Rd), Blanchard (State Line Rd), and North Benton (Highway 3).
