Big Price Drop: Crawfish Prices Down Across Shreveport-Bossier
SHREVEPORT, LA - We are not moving into prime crawfish season. Prices have fallen dramatically over the past 2 weeks all over northwest Louisiana.
What Is the Average Price Right Now?
And this is also the time when we start seeing larger mudbugs at those crawfish boils and at our favorite vendors. But we are not even close to the low prices we have seen in the past for May. Usually you could find boiled crawfish for under $3 a pound during May. You will not likely find prices under $4 a pound right now unless you find a great deal which will involve buying large quantities.
Why We Have Been Missing Crawfish
This crawfish season has been pretty sad for me. I've only had crawfish twice this year because the prices have been too high. Usually by now, I have crashed at least a dozen crawfish boils. Yes, I'm that person. If I see a great crawfish boil going on, I might just roll up on it and act like I was invited. Someone will recognize me as "that lady on the radio" and will assume I am the invited guest of someone. But I guess I just let the cat out of the bag.
In my latest survey of crawfish prices, I found prices for live crawfish at $2.99 a pound at many spots, but I also found T. Johnny's selling bugs for $2.49 a pound. For boiled crawfish, the lowest price I could find was at the Crabby Crawfish. They are selling them for $4.97 a pound.
