Crawfish Prices in Shreveport Bossier Fall Again
SHREVEPORT, LA - Crawfish prices are still pretty pricey across Louisiana, but in Shreveport Bossier, we are paying about 2 dollars more per pound than the folks in the southern part of the state. I understand the transportation costs of getting the mudbugs from the crawfish farmers does come with a price, but it makes me a little jealous to see the lower prices in Lafayette, Lake Charles, Baton Rouge and other cities.
But enough of my envy. I have tried some mudbugs this season. A friend bought some for me recently and they were pretty good. I do need you to know they are still small compared to what we usually see around Easter time. But these bugs I tried were awesome. I still can't bring myself to spend so much money for something you have to work so hard to eat. I'll probably wait until the prices fall a couple more bucks. But I'm not really sure that's going to happen this season.
How Much Are Crawfish in Shreveport Bossier?
The lowest price I could find over the weekend was $6.49 a pound for boiled crawfish. Most places in the area were selling them for $6.99 or $7.99 a pound. Live crawfish vendors are selling them for $4.99 a pound, but I did find one place selling them for $3.99 a pound.
What Do We Typically Pay for Crawfish in April?
I don't think we will see normal prices this year, but prices for live crawfish usually fall below $3 a pound as we move into April and May and some even sell live crawfish for $1.99 a pound. In previous years I have tracked prices for boiled crawfish to below $4 a pound. You could typically find a couple of spots selling boiled crawfish for $2.99 a pound. I wouldn't bet on this happening during this tough year for crawfish.
