Your Memorial Day Boil Just Got Cheaper (and Bigger!) in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA - We are now in the heart of crawfish season in the Shreveport area. The mudbugs are the cheapest they have been all year and they are the largest we have seen this season. Crawfish boils are one of the things we do in Louisiana. It's a great way to get together with family and enjoy quality time with great food and family fun.

How Much Will Crawfish Be for Memorial Day Weekend?

Memorial Day weekend is also the big weekend for crawfish lovers around the region. Shreveport plays host to the annual Mudbug Madness Festival. You will be able to find crawfish cooked in all kinds of ways. Of course, they have the boiled crawfish, but you will also find crawfish pies, crawfish etouffee and so much more.

Louisiana's crawfish season typically kicks off in January, but prices are really high until we get out of the winter months. As we move into March, the prices start to drop. By Memorial Day weekend, we usually see the lowest prices of the season. You will still be able to find crawfish in June and early July, but they will get harder to snag the deeper into the summer we go.

During the entire month of May, crawfish are typically at their largest, juiciest, and most abundant. This means really good prices and lots of options for buying them.

Last year, we saw prices early in the season climb to about $15 dollars a pound because of a drought and that made it tough for lots of folks to buy the bugs. But that means things have been much better this year and the supplies are great.

We found the prices for live crawfish under $3 a pound at some spots and boiled crawfish prices are between $3.99 and $4.99 at most places.
