Early this morning, Louisiana Congressman and House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) was shot during a congressional baseball practice.

The shooting took place in Alexandria, Va, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Members of the House and Senate where on hand for an early morning practice for tomorrow's charity baseball game.

Scalise was shot in the hip, and has been taken to a local hospital where reports say he is in stable condition.

Reports say that a gunman fired off between 15-60 shots from an assault-rifle type weapon, Senator Rand Paul is on the record identifying the weapon as sounding like an AR-15. According to Johnson, and other reports, the gunman was either killed or taken into custody, but those details are very foggy at this time.

Johnson also relays anecdotes that lead us to believe the gunman was specifically targeting the practice based on the attendance of Republicans.
