It's nice to have a connection to greatness. I was a member of the Spirit of Northwestern marching band at NSU in Natchitoches for my first two-and-a-half years of college...under the direction of Bill Brent. Now, he's received two major honors recognizing his accomplishments at Northwestern. He's been selected for membership in the American Bandmasters Association, and for induction into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Brent has been at NSU for 29 years. In that time, he's built one of the best marching band programs in the nation, increasing the number of members from 48 to more than 300. I can attest to that...the band was more than 200 strong when I was at Northwestern in the late-80's and early 90's. IThough I didn't go on to graduate from NSU, I'm proud to have been a member of that band. In fact, it was the major reason I ever went there to begin with. (And I loved it so much, I decided to pledge Tau Beta Sigma, the band sorority.) So...congrats to my former band director! You deserve the honors!!
