Former Northwestern State University President Randall Webb was awarded the title of President Emeritus at the university's spring commencement ceremonies.

Webb retired in December after more than 18 years as president. According to an NSU news release, that's the longest tenure of any chief executive in the university's history.

"This is the highest professional honor I have received," Webb said in the news release. "Branda and my family share in it."

Webb also said many individuals were responsible for the success Northwestern achieved during his tenure as president.

"I am deeply grateful to the faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, students and their parents for all they have done to make this honor possible," he said. "I am especially grateful to President Jim Henderson for having recommended this action and to members of the Board of Supervisors of the University of Louisiana System for their approval."

NSU achieved many successes in academics, athletics, enrollment growth, facility enhancement, fund-raising initiatives and other activities during Webb's presidency.
