Dozens of local residents showed up at the Caddo School Board meeting in an attempt to save Fair Park High School. But in the end, the board voted to move forward with the plan to convert the high school into a middle school and send the students to Booker T. Washington High School.

State Representative Barbara Norton told the board

Please don't make me choose between this board and the people, because I will always be with the people. The people care about educating our children and that's what we all should care about.

KSLA reports there were plenty of unhappy people in the meeting room.

The board also voted to ok the agreement with the State Education Department on a plan to help 14 struggling schools.

Another item on the agenda drew lots of comments. This was the plan to close Lakeshore Middle School and move those students to what will become Fair Park Middle School.

There was a motion to keep Fair Park as a high school, but that measure failed on a 10-2 vote.
