Caddo Residents Can Now Get Rent Money Help

Caddo Parish has millions of dollars available for rental assistance for local residents. The Parish has gotten 7 million dollars to help residents who have struggled to pay the rent during the pandemic.

But so far only 2900 families have applied for the program. The parish expects to be able to help at least 6000 families. But that number could go higher because another 7 million dollars is expected to come from the federal program to help with this effort. Parish leaders are encouraging anyone who has had difficult financial conditions over the past year to apply for this funding.

The first checks are expected to go out at the end of April.

The purpose of the ERA program is to help families and individuals who have suffered a temporary financial setback due to COVID-19 and who need help with current or past due residential rent and/or electricity costs.

Landlords can also apply for help through this program.

Applicants do have to meet certain income restrictions and provide documentation of their income and past-due rent payments. Several local agencies are helping with the application process:

Catholic Charities of North Louisiana; NWLA Community Development Corporation; Grace Project; Providence House; and United Way of Northwest Louisiana are ready to help.
