Over the next few months, folks around Caddo Parish may notice a change in the way patrol deputies are dressed. The department is implementing a number of changes in, not only their uniforms, but the way their equipment is worn, in what is considered to be a newer, safer, more efficient way.

The CPSD deputies, who regularly carry about twenty pounds of equipment, have purchased new vests to more safely distribute that weight. The vests, which cost about $700, were paid for by a combination of grants and money seized in drug arrests.

The main purpose of the new vests is to more evenly distribute the weight of deputies' equipment, putting less stress on their backs, hips and legs, and making it safer for them over the course of their careers.
