Brian Horn’s 2nd Murder Trial Begins Friday in DeSoto Parish
SHREVEPORT, LA - The second trial for the man accused of killing a local child is set to begin Friday in a DeSoto Parish courtroom. Opening statements are set to begin at 1 p.m. Friday in the capital murder retrial of 47-year-old Brian Horn of Keachi. He is accused of killing 12-year-old Justin Bloxom on March 30, 2010.
Six men and six women have been selected as jurors in the case. They were chosen in Vernon Parish and have been transported to Mansfield for the trial. 2 alternate jurors were also selected. The jurors will be sequestered in DeSoto Parish during the trial.
DeSoto District Attorney Charles Adams says the trial will go all weekend and that includes the 4th of July. The trial is expected to take a little more than a week to wrap up.
Bloxom was a North DeSoto Middle School student and was spending the night with a friend when he was lured away by Horn who used text messages to pose as a girl. Horn picked Justin up in his taxi and allegedly killed him in a wooded area off of Highway 171 in DeSoto Parish.
Horn was convicted of first degree murder in 2014 and was sentenced to death. But that proceeding was overturned by the State Supreme Court and a new trial was ordered.
The D.A. is again asking the jury to sentence Horn to death in this case.
