Bossier Leader Resigns After Calling Trump Voters “Nazis”

SHREVEPORT, LA - Tensions over the election results have bubbled over into quite a controversy in Bossier City. The President of the Bossier Women's Commission made some very controversial statements on Facebook that have sparked a furor amid conservative voters.

Rae Powell posted this message on a friend's post:

"It’s been GREAT having the “ Trump Train” meme and other things so many have posted. It’s making it super easy to unfriend them. Never knew I had so many Nazi friends until now."

Powell also said: "VP-elect Vance used to call Trump "America’s Hitler." He wasn’t saying that just to be funny." Powell also made this comment on the social media post:

Trump’s own four star generals mentioned he was a fascist when they issued their warning about Trump being dangerous and unfit for office. Surely this is not the first time you’re hearing a connection between Trump and fascism!

The mission of the Bossier Women's Commission is to "Empower women and enhance lives in Bossier City and the surrounding communities. One of the Commission's goals is to encourage confident independence in the women and young ladies we are able to assist."

Powell sent KEEL News this statement on Monday morning:

"I was not speaking on behalf of the Bossier City Commission for Women in any form nor was my opinion a reflection in any way of the views of other Commissioners who serve with me. The opinion I expressed, as is my American right, was in no form a view I have regarding the entire Republican Party of Bossier Parish or the Republicans of Bossier City. It was my personal opinion based on individuals who were in my personal Facebook friend group."

Powell has turned in her resignation as President of the Bossier City Commission for Women and her place on the Commission. She says the Commission does great work  in the parish, city, and surrounding communities.

Duke Lowrie, President of the Bossier Parish Republican Party tells KEEL News these kinds of comments should not be made by people in such high profile positions. He says he is satisfied now that he has learned Powell has resigned from the Bossier Women's Commission.
