Residents of Bossier will likely get some good news in the next few days. The City Council is holding a special meeting today to discuss a new deal to keep the Mike Wood pool open.

There has been some debate about how many people actually use the pool each summer. City Councilman Chris Smith has told KEEL News only 200-300 actually used the pool last summer. But lifeguards raised serious questions about that number. They claim the pool was packed with youngsters each day.

Last month, city leaders announced the pool would not open this summer. But after getting quite an outcry from residents, city leaders decided to look for all possible options. The Mayor and his staff held a meeting with Shelley McMillian with Rock Solid to talk about running the pool. This proposal would include staffing the pool and hosting swim lessons. But specifics about how much the city will pay Rock Solid have not yet been unveiled.

Rock Solid is already gearing up to staff the pools.

Rock Solid currently runs the city pools for Shreveport and they have been doing so for several years. This year, Shreveport will have all of the pools back up and open. Several have had some major work done.

If the Bossier City Council approves this plan during today's special meeting, a final vote is expected next week during the regular meeting and the pools could be up and running in just a few weeks. Crews have already started cleaning out the Mike Wood pool to get ready for the season.
