Bossier City Nabs Spot In Updated Louisiana Speed Trap Ranks
The National Motorists Association is a nonpofit 501(c)(3) group that researches safety and efficiency on roadways. Not just in America, but internationally. They are a grassroots organization founded in 1982, and are still defending drivers to this day.
One of their main concerns are speed traps, which according to research, don't improve safety. From the National Motorists Association, they say:
"Detailed research by the U.S. Department of Commerce has shown that the safest rate of travel is a few miles per hour above the average traffic speed. Enforced speed limits set below that average speed are speed traps, sacrificing safety for revenue."
The organization keeps track of speed traps, and allows users to explain how these speed traps are executed. This includes Louisiana.
But for our list, we looked beyond just the National Motorists Association comments, and looked at what Louisiana residents say about their speed trap experiences. From social media comments, to publishes reports, to Reddit threads. We have scoured the internet to find Louisiana's most notorious speed traps.
After looking over the history of speed traps in Louisiana, there have been some long time standards in the state. Place like Krotz Springs always generate a negative reaction from travelers who are familiar with the area. But it's not just about the regular speed traps, we have a brand new one to talk about.
One of the most diabolical speed traps in the state is a recently opened road in Bossier City. Just off Benton Road, the new Walter O. Bigby Carriageway debuted as a speed trap on day one. Literally, the first 24-hours the Carriageway was open, a speed trap program was rolled out at the bottom of the ramp to catch anyone caught off-guard by the downhill acceleration. Pretty cold blooded to speed trap people their first time coming down a hill on the first time a road was opened. But it didn't stop there.
The Bossier fundraiser has continued on the new road, even after public outrage. Best advice, avoid the Carriageway, unless you want to run the risk of it being a toll road for you.
