A small, but passionate group of demonstrators gathered at the Minden Civic Center Sunday the 7th to protest racism in the police departments following the death of George Floyd by a police officer.

Protesters were offered time to come and say what they needed to say about their feelings on the issue in front of the group. Some of the ones that came to speak were an Iraq war veteran, Mayor Terry Gardener, and Miss Minden 2020 Joy Davis joined to speak and sing "Amazing Grace".

Since the death of George Floyd and two black men in the custody of Shreveport Police, dozens of peaceful protests have taken place in Shreveport, Bossier and the surrounding areas.

At this time, the officers involved in the death of George Floyd have been arrested and face several charges. Locally, the officers who were video taped having a physical altercation with Tommie McGlothen have been placed on leave and are under investigation. Both Mayor Adrian Perkins and Police Chief Ben Raymond have said that changes are underway with the Shreveport Police to ensure incidents like this don't continue to occur in our community.
