‘Cobra Kai’ has brought the classic back into the spotlight

Halloween season is officially upon us, and as usual, the most wonderful time of the year (don’t @ me) brings with it a veritable variety pack of tricks and treats. Treats: Scary movies, fun makeup, awkward parties, so much candy! Tricks: Terrible costumes, ranging from “Sexy Handmaid’s Tale” (no really, someone tried to make that happen) to this abomination inspired by horror movie classic Child’s Play, courtesy of Target.

Tom Cruise is going back down the highway to the danger zone, and this time he’s taking a motorcycle — or at least that’s the case in these new set photos from Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to the high-flying ’80s hit, in which Cruise reprises his iconic role as the eponymous Maverick.

With Solo hitting home video formats in a couple of weeks, Lucasfilm has unleashed several pieces of really cool concept art for the Falcon, giving us a closer look at how they de-aged one of the film’s most significant characters.

Burt Reynolds, the iconic mustachioed star of classics ranging from Smokey and the Bandit to Boogie Nights, has passed away at the age of 82. The actor died early Thursday at Jupiter Medical Center in Florida, as confirmed by his manager. No cause of death has been given at this time.

That was quick. Just last week it was reported that Paramount and Skydance were eyeing a trio of actors to potentially play a key role opposite Tom Cruise in Top Gun: Maverick: Miles Teller, Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult were all in the running for the part of Goose’s son, and it looks like the powers that be have already selected Cruise’s co-pilot.

Following numerous allegations of sexual misconduct and assault, things have been fairly quiet on the Kevin Spacey front — even though he (surprisingly) has a new movie hitting theaters this summer. But Spacey’s name was brought up in a recent TV interview with Guy Pearce, who suggested that his former L.A. Confidential co-star was “handsy” with him on the set of Curtis Hanson’s 1997 crime film.

Almost every corner of Hollywood has been shaken by claims of sexual misconduct in the months since the New York Times first exposed decades of allegations against Harvey Weinstein — and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences is no exception. The organization has, like many others, taken strides to reconcile with sexual abuses in the film industry, but the latest allegations hit much closer home: Academy President John Bailey is reportedly under investigation for multiple claims of sexual harassment.

Chances are if you were watching the 2018 Oscars — like pretty much everyone else on the internet — then you saw Frances McDormand’s incredible acceptance speech for Best Actress. McDormand, who took home the honor for her performance in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (a timely film for the #MeToo movement), invited all of her fellow female nominees across every category to stand up and share in the remarkable moment. Then she ended the speech with a piece of advice. “Two words,” McDormand said. “Inclusion rider.”
