UPDATE: Details on UTV Crash Which Killed Daughter of Shreveport Firefighter
UPDATE: Red River Parish Sheriff Glen Edwards tells KEEL News this tragic crash happened at about 3:30 Saturday afternoon on private property in Red River Parish. It happened at a family gathering just northwest of highway 515.
Edwards says:
The UTV was being operated by juveniles. One was driving and 3 others were passengers. All of the riders were related. The UTV rolled during the crash, ejecting a 14-year-old girl. The other 3 young people were hurt, but are expected to recover.
A Go-Fund Me account has been set up to help the family.
Sheriff Edwards says alcohol was not involved in this crash.
SHREVEPORT, LA - The Shreveport Fire Department family is shaken today after a tragedy in Red River Parish. The teenage daughter of a local firefighter has died in an ATV accident in Coushatta. Another daughter was also hurt in the crash.
The crash reportedly happened at a family members house. Early reports indicate the girls were riding on the back of the ATV.
A life air helicopter met the ambulance in Elm Grove where the trauma team tried to save the teens life, but she reportedly was pronounced dead on arrival at LSU Health.
The younger girl was hospitalized overnight with moderate injuries and has since been released.
The older daughter was a student at Caddo Magnet High School in Shreveport.
The School Board has sent this statement to KEEL News:
Grief counselors will be on campus Monday and the district’s Supervisor of Counseling is providing guidance to school leadership to ensure support is available to students and staff.
The younger daughter is an 8th grader at Caddo Middle Magnet.
