Attention Fellow “Band Nerds”…Don’t Miss This!
If you're a former "band geek" like me...this event is right up your alley! Thirty high school marching bands from Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi are participating in the annual Northwestern State University Marching Contest this Saturday in Turpin Stadium. There are numerous groups participating in Classifications I, II, and III...but Parkway High School -- my alma mater -- is the lone participant in Class IV. Other local schools participating are Bossier, Byrd and Airline. The contest starts at 9 a.m. The Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band (of which I was a member for two years in my early college days!) performs at 5:30 p.m., and the awards presentation is at 6 p.m. Admission is $5.
