A three-day Public Art in Transportation Symposium kicked off at noon today at artspace in downtown Shreveport.  Shreveport Common Project Manager Wendy Benscoter says it features people who are considered the national "gurus" on the subject.  Attendees will get to see the latest examples in Public Art and have the opportunity to interact with the expert panelists.  In addition, artists will find out how to better compete for projects and how to negotiate contracts, among other things.

During the Symposium, the community will be invited to meet the six finalist teams competing for CommonLink -- information and transportation substation -- and see their design concepts.  That's going on tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m.  Thursday evening, those finalists will go to a Public Arts Jury, and the winning team will work with our community for a year to design that project.

There may still be a few seats available for the Symposium.  Visit http://shrevearts.org/arts-culture/public-art-2 for more information.
