There's another closure expected at the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets in Bossier City, as one more national retailer has filed for Chapter 11. According to multiple reports from Reuters and Bloomberg, clothing retailer rue21 has filed for bankruptcy, and will be closing all 541 of their retail locations. This includes their location in Bossier City at the Boardwalk.

According to Reuters, this is the third time rue21 has filed for bankruptcy protection. In addition to closing all of their retail locations, the company will be selling off their intellectual property.

The company had previously tried to find a buyer for their assets, but were unsuccessful. They reportedly have over 5,000 employees across 45 states, and according to some reports, the first notification about the closures to employees came from news reports.

These closures will not happen right away, as court filings state that they will be holding nationwide going-out-of-business sales.

This continues a rough stretch for the Louisiana Boardwalk, who have seen numerous closures over the last few yeas. Recently a long-time national restaurant closed, and just months before that, a brand new restaurant closed after just four months of operation.

Other national retailers have pulled out of The Boardwalk as well, like the Nike store that closed in 2023. All of which is of course coming off the heels of the pandemic lockdowns that killed so many businesses. Including multiple spots at The Boardwalk.

The Boardwalk itself even changed hands over the last few years. Being taken over by Boardwalk Routh LLC in August of 2022.
