Crawfish Price Update: Prices Drop a Bit in Shreveport Bossier
SHREVEPORT, LA - We have more good news this week about crawfish prices in north Louisiana. The prices are dipping for live mudbugs if you want to have your own crawfish boil. But the prices for boiled mudbugs has not changed much over the past two weeks.
Prices for boiled bugs are ranging from $6.99 to $8.99, but most places are still selling them for $7.99 a pound. We did find better deals for live crawfish. A couple of spots are selling them for $3.79 a pound which is down by about a dollar from two weeks ago. Remember when you buy live crawfish, you have to buy a sack that averages 30-40 pounds.
You will still find the size of crawfish is still quite small. I expect that to change as we get closer to May which is the peak of the season.
What Do State Officials Say About Crawfish Season?
Louisiana Ag Secretary Mike Strain tells KEEL News the crawfish industry has been hard hit and many crawfish farmers will probably only see about 25% of the crop they normally have every year. He and Governor Jeff Landry are asking the feds to step in and provide some relief for the farmers.
Will the Prices Drop Later this Spring?
Will be be able to get boiled crawfish for about $3 a pound like we had last year? That is not likely this year because the drought during 2023 severely impacted the crop. But we should see prices fall a bit more as we move into May and June.
