We’re getting not one, but two new Ridley Scott films this year. The prolific director’s next film, which is slated for an awards season release in December, is a dramatic thriller based on the infamous Getty kidnapping. The first trailer for All the Money in the World has arrived, and it boasts an ensemble that includes Michelle Williams, Mark Wahlberg, and an almost unrecognizable Kevin Spacey — giving Gary Oldman a run for his money in this year’s “actor becomes unrecognizable to play historical figure” race.

In case you couldn’t tell by the use of The Zombies’ “Time of the Season,” Scott’s new film is a period drama — and a historical one, at that. Spacey stars as the billionaire John Paul Getty, who was, at the time, the richest private citizen in the world. Despite his vast wealth, Getty refused to pay the hefty ransom demanded by his grandson’s abductors. I’ll refrain from detailing what happened next, just in case you’re not familiar with the true story, but it was a fairly harrowing situation, to say the least:

ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD follows the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather (Kevin Spacey) to pay the ransom. When Getty Sr. refuses, Gail attempts to sway him as her son’s captors become increasingly volatile and brutal. With her son’s life in the balance, Gail and Getty’s advisor (Mark Wahlberg) become unlikely allies in the race against time that ultimately reveals the true and lasting value of love over money.

Scott’s film isn’t the only upcoming project based on the Getty case, by the way; Danny Boyle and Simon Beaufoy are collaborating on Trust, a Getty kidnapping series for FX.

All the Money in the World arrives on December 8.
