There are a lot of local events coming up in observance of Memorial Day, which falls on Monday, May 26.

The first one is a salute to fallen soldiers. It runs from noon until 7 p.m. at David Raines Park in Shreveport's Allendale neighborhood. It includes food vendors, health screenings, a softball game, and arts and crafts for the kids. It's sponsored by American Legion Post 450.

There are also several observances Monday. The first is at 9 a.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Haughton. The guest speaker is Ray Urban from American Legion Post 14. At noon, it's the annual ceremony at the Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Cemetery in Keithville. The traditional Wreath Laying Ceremony follows at 2 p.m. at Cross Lake.

Broadmoor Baptist Church will hold a program at 6 p.m. Bossier Parish Sheriff Julian Whittington is the featured speaker.

There's also a Memorial Day ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 30, at 9 a.m. That's held at Greenwood Cemetery at Stoner and Centenary. Air Force pilot Carroll Michaud will be the guest speaker, and service organizations will place memorial wreaths.
