Firefighters Battle Massive Woods Fire in South Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, LA – These hot, dry conditions have kept firefighters busy across the Caddo Parish.
Just after 4pm on Wednesday, Shreveport Firefighters responded to a woods fire near Linwood and Bert Kouns. Calls came in about heavy black smoke coming from a wooded area behind Brookshire’s.
Engines 15 and 9 pulled up to the scene and were able to find the site of the fire in the woods. It was coming from a homeless encampment deep inside the wooded area.
The fire department issued this statement:
Due to strong wind-driven conditions, the fire began to rapidly grow and spread causing Engine 15 to request additional SFD personnel, including two brush trucks. Mutual aid was also requested and generously provided by Caddo Parish Fire Districts 3 and 6 and the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry, who deployed a bulldozer to create fire breaks and contain the flames.
About 20 firefighters helped battle the blaze to try to keep it from spreading. The blaze was contained within about 2 hours. No one was injured in this blaze and no buildings were damaged in the fire.
No word yet on what sparked the blaze.
This low humidity and high winds have created a fire danger for the entire region. Caddo Parish remains under a burn ban as a result of these conditions.
