Louisiana Community on Top 10 Best Small Southern Towns List

SHREVEPORT, LA – This news might surprise you. But only one Louisiana city is named as one of the best small towns in the south. The winning city is not in Acadiana. It's no where near New Orleans. And it's not one you would probably pick as a charming small town.

The Louisiana town named on this list is West Monroe. First, I really wouldn’t call West Monroe a small town. I consider it a twin city, kind of like Bossier City is to Shreveport.

Second, would you say West Monroe is charming? I might get in trouble for this, but I can think of several towns across Louisiana with way more charm than West Monroe. But that’s my opinion.

A panel of experts put together this list for a new USA 10best poll.

Several states have just one city on this top ten list. Only Florida has 3 cities honored.

These communities were chosen based on their “charm, scenery and historic locations.”

You may recall hearing about West Monroe some years back, thanks to the popular television show "Duck Dynasty," but there’s so much more to this northern Louisiana community. Among its surprising delights are Landry Vineyards, as well as the nearby Biedenharn Museum & Garden. A number of parks and wetlands make this an excellent, family-friendly getaway.
