U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has announced on his website that he will be running for president in 2016 "to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government."

According to a Fox News story, the 52-year-old Republican senator is scheduled to personally announce his bid this afternoon at a "Stand with Rand" rally in Louisville.

The Associated Press reports Rand Paul "has frequently challenged the Republican mainstream -- questioning the size of the military and challenging GOP support for surveillance programs, drone policies and sanctions on Iran and Cuba."

Louisiana residents may be wondering if this will affect Bobby Jindal's possible presidential run. What do you think? Let us know!
