LOCAL SOLDIER DIES IN AFGHANISTAN
ROLLOVER CRASH ON HIGHWAY 80
POLICE UNIT AT BOARDWALK DISBANDED
PETA HEADED TO TOWN
GREAT NEWS FOR LSUS

A soldier from Bossier City working on a bomb disposal unity in Afghanistan has died. 27 year old Staff Sgt. Michael Garcia died on the 4th of July in the Logar Province.  He died from wounds he received when insurgents attacked his unit with an IED. Garcia was stationed at Fort Polk Army Base. Our prayers go out to his loved ones today.

Two Minden women are seriously injured in a rollover crash on Highway 80 just west of Dixie Inn. 39 year old Kristi Young and her passenger, 31 year old Kristi Cole had to be cut out of the car.  They were both flown to the LSU Hospital.  Young was headed west when she lost control in a curve and hit a concrete culvert and the car rolled.  State Police suspect speed and possibly alcohol might have played a role in the crash.  Toxicology tests are pending.  Both women were wearing seatbelts.

The Bossier police unit assigned to the Boardwalk is no more.  The Chief of Police says he needs the officers back on patrol to protect the entire city. but the Boardwalk won’t be without a police presence. It will be treated as a completely new district in the city and patrol officers will be assigned to the Boardwalk like they would be assigned to any other neighborhood.  Police will also beef up patrols at the shopping complex for special events.  All of the seven officers assigned to the boardwalk will be phased back into regular patrols over the next two weeks.

If you're downtown during the noon-hour today, you may see a bunch of nearly-naked women standing behind a banner the reads, "bare skin -- don't wear skin." it's part of peta's "rather go naked than wear fur" campaign and it's making a stop in shreveport tomorrow -- at the corner of texas and marshall. peta -- or people for the ethical treatment of animals -- claims that animals killed for their skins are often electrocuted, poisoned, or gassed -- or have their necks broken

Good news for a local university.  LSU Shreveport has been named one of the most affordable colleges in America. The Department of Education study shows that LSUS is ranked 15th in the nation when it comes to public, four-year colleges.  This puts the local university at the top of the list of Louisiana colleges. So how much does it cost to go to LSU Shreveport….about four thousand a year.  The national average is ten thousand.
