Three people died over the weekend in a wreck in north Caddo Parish.

Sheriff Steve Prator says a Toyota Corolla was headed southbound in the northbound lane of I-49, just north of Hwy. 169, when it crashed head-on into a Kia Spectra.

The driver of the Toyota, 34-year-old Ronald Wheatley of Bossier Parish, and the driver of the Kia, 54-year-old Charles Creel of Atlanta, Texas, both died at the scene. Creel's 18-year-old son Caleb was also killed. Creel's 53-year-old wife Linda was taken to University Health, where she continues to be treated for her injuries.

An 18-wheeler that was traveling behind the Creel's vehicle was also involved in the crash when the Kia was knocked into its path by the Toyota. The truck then hit the driver's side of the Kia and knocked the vehicle off the road and into a ditch. The big rig's driver wasn't injured.

Sheriff's Lt. Michael Gray says alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. An open container was found inside Wheatley's vehicle. The accident is being investigated by the Caddo Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit and Patrol Division.
