Chimp Haven, the National Chimpanzee Sanctuary, will soon be dedicating a $2.4 Million expansion to their facility. The new Laurie and Carlee McGrath Welcoming Center will serve as the quarantine area for newly retired chimpanzees arriving at the sanctuary.
We've just received word that Chimp Haven has been forced to cancel its Spring Fling, set for this Saturday, due to the expected bad weather.
The next Chimpanzee Discovery Day is scheduled for May 16. Sanctuary spokeswoman Ashley Gordon tells us Spring Fling has been moved to that day...
It's taken a year and a half of planning, fundraising, and traveling, but all 110 federally-owned chimpanzees formerly used for research at the New Iberia Research Center have now been retired to Chimp Haven in Keithville.
