The driver of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian last night in southeast Shreveport has been arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.At approximately 7:41 p.m. on August 3, 2011, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a major crash on Youree Drive near East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.  Upon arrival, patrolmen discovered a pedestrian had been struck a by car at that location. The pedestrian, identified at this time only as a 32 year old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Investigating officers learned that a Pontiac driven by 26 year old David Kizer was apparently traveling southbound on Youree Drive just south of East Bert Kouns Industrial Loop when, according to witnesses, the pedestrian, who appeared to be crossing Youree Drive from east to west, ran out in front of his vehicle.

Kizer, of the 8500 block of Millicent Way in Shreveport, was transported to the Shreveport Police Complex for routine blood alcohol screening and, upon further investigation, was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He was subsequently booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Crash investigators are working to determine the cause of this crash and their investigation is ongoing. The identity of the man killed is being withheld at this time pending notification of his next of kin.
