$50,000 Bet Kicks Off In Person Sports Betting in Shreveport-Bossier City
By now you've probably heard that a local casino was approved late last week for in-person sports betting here in Shreveport-Bossier, but what was the first bet? You're not going to believe this, but first, some background...
Louisiana sports fans have been waiting for their chance to gamble on sports legally.
Sports fans were super excited for the chance to bet on their favorite teams in time for football season this year in Louisiana, but unfortunately, Hurricane Ida screwed that all up. How, you might ask? The initial applications for sports betting are submitted via the Louisiana State Police who were a little preoccupied with helping to save life and property in the wake of the storm, but as things have slowly gotten back to normal, sports betting licensing saw some forward momentum. Case in point, four Louisiana casinos received approval Friday to host sports betting starting Sunday, October 31, 2021, including Horseshoe Casino in Bossier City who took their first wager yesterday morning at 7 am via Caesar's Sportsbook.
So check this out... after Bossier Mayor Tommy Chandler handled the ribbon-cutting duties, the first patron stepped up to the window and placed a $50,000 bet ON THE DETRIOT LIONS to cover +3.5 against Philadelphia. As in the Detroit Lions who haven't won a game all season and yesterday, it was more of the same with the Eagles rolling over them 44 - 6!!!
What was this guest thinking?!?!?
It makes you wonder if this particular patron just had some money to burn. After all, isn't the whole point of gambling TRYING to win? Sheesh! Must be nice! (FYI, I haven't been able to find the name of the guest who laid down such an outlandish bet, but you better believe I'm on the hunt. I have questions!)
