Last week, the Shreveport Police Department responded to a shooting on Woodford Street.

When SPD arrived on the scene, Officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Her car had also been hit by gunfire, in this dangerous and violent situation.

The victim told SPD she was driving through the area to pick up her boyfriend when she saw a man identified as Deangelo Adams standing on a front porch. When she got closer to the home Adams was standing at, he allegedly shot at the car, striking the it twice and injuring the victim in the process.

While SPD secured the scene, Detectives with the Violent Crimes Division immediately began looking for who was responsible. Throughout the investigation, detectives gathered enough evidence needed to get arrest warrants for Adams on the following charges:

▪️ Aggravated Battery

▪️ Aggravated Assault with a Firearm

▪️ Illegal Use of a Weapon

Over the weekend, SPD Officers conducted a traffic stop on Jewella Avenue. Deangelo Adams was found and identified in the passenger seat of the car, and Officers quickly confirmed he had multiple warrants related to the Woodford Street shooting. Adams was arrested without incident.

Also inside the vehicle was 17-year-old Lazavion Carter, who was found to be in possession of a handgun. As the investigation continued, a witness confirmed the gun belonged to Adams.

Adams is a convicted felon, from a 2009 murder case in which he pled guilty to manslaughter in 2011 and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. A  felon with a gun represents a serious threat to public safety. Officers successfully removed the illegally owned gun from our streets.

Carter has been charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile.

From SPD:

"The Shreveport Police Department commends its Violent Crimes detectives for their determined investigative work and its patrol officers for their proactive efforts in safely taking another violent felon into custody."
