A Shreveport woman admits to stealing more than $39,000 in Social Security benefit payments.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 49-year-old Stephanie Lynn pled guilty in Shreveport Federal Court to one count of theft of government funds. According to court evidence, from May 2009 to December 2013, she cashed her deceased son's Social Security benefit checks, didn't inform the Social Security Administration her son had died, and submitted paperwork stating he was alive in order to continue receiving the checks.

Lynn faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine and restitution. She'll be sentenced April 29, 2015.
