Shreveport has made great strides in collecting huge overdue water bills from commercial customers. But we still have several that have high balances.

You'll probably say if you let your water bill go for a couple of months, your water would probably get turned off. That is pretty standard. A couple of years ago, KEEL News found that dozens of businesses in Shreveport have outstanding water bills going back for years.

Back in 2024, we requested a list of all delinquent accounts that have a balance of more than $10,000. The list at the time had more than 50 accounts on it. We recently requested a new list and after several months of bugging the city for an update, we got the new list.

How Many Shreveport Water Accounts Owe More than $10 Grand?

We have found considerable improvement. This latest list provided by the city shows only 11 customers owe in excess of $10 thousand dollars.

Back in 2024, Mayor Tom Arceneaux told us most of the delinquent accounts were commercial and they should have been treated the same way that residents are.

The Mayor says a lot of this accumulated during Covid. "Some of these also might be due to some leaks that we are investigating." Arceneaux says "we are going to do our very best to collect this money or make arrangements to begin payments or the water will be cut off."

We have learned that several of the delinquent accounts uncovered in 2024 are now closed accounts. We are also asking the city if any lawsuits have been filed over outstanding water bills.
