On November 25, Thanksgiving Day 2021, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to a local hospital on reports of a 7-year-old child with a brain injury.

The Violent Crimes Unit responded and launched their investigation. Detectives learned that five children and their adult uncle were present at an apartment in the 1600 block of Fullerton Street. At some point the uncle went to check on the children and found a 7-year-old female unconscious. The uncle contacted the mother of the injured child, and the mother transported the child to a local hospital where her condition life-threatening.

Detectives worked with the Gingerbread House to interview the juvenile witnesses. Through those interviews investigators learned that two teens, aged 13 and 14 were inside of the residence with two 7-year-olds and a 5-year-old. The 13- and 14-year-old allegedly locked one of the 7-year-old children and the 5-year-old child inside of a closet and began beating the other 7-year-old, causing what doctors described as a traumatic brain injury. The child remains hospitalized in serious condition.

On November 25, 2021, the 13- and 14-year-old male juveniles were taken into custody and charged with one count each of Second-Degree Battery. They were booked into the Caddo Parish Juvenile Detention Center.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
