Shreveport Leaders Critical of Caddo School Board Hiring Process
SHREVEPORT, LA - After more than an hour of comments from the public, some members of the Caddo School Board tried to delay the interview of Keith Burton to be the next Superintendent of Caddo Schools.
Some Board members now say they want to interview the top 3 candidates who applied for the job. But a motion to delay the interview of Burton failed on a 6-6 vote.
The Board discussed the matter for several minutes before taking a 15 minute break. After that break, the Board decided to interview Burton during an open meeting rather than going into executive session and closing the interview to the public.
Before the interview started, several prominent local leaders stepped forward to urge the Board to pump the brakes and consider other possible candidates for the job.
Board attorney Reg Abrams was asked if the process was followed this time. He told the Board the process was followed from the beginning to the point we are now. He did say the Board never announced that a certain number of candidates would be interviewed.
