Shreveport Police Arrest Two for Shooting Near a School
Last Friday, the Shreveport Police Department were at Booker T. Washington High School on a call, when they heard gunshots nearby.
Officers with SPD acted fast with the help of the school's on-duty Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputy to put the school on lock down considering the potential threat.
With the campus secured, additional Officers were called to the scene as the sound of nearby gunshots continued.
SPD and CPSO combed the area around the school, and eventually found Walter Houston (left) and Omarion Shepherd (right) walking near Looney Street. Police found two guns near the the path the two had been walking through.
Officers investigated further and found out that the two had been shooting in the backyard of a house on Looney Street. Due to being in such close proximity to the school, the area the two were shooting in is considered a firearm-free zone.
Houston and Shepherd were both arrested and charged with:
· Illegal Use of a Weapon
· Violation of the Firearm-Free Zone Statute
From SPD:
"No injuries were reported. The coordinated and timely response between law enforcement agencies helped bring the situation under control quickly and safely.
A dangerous situation was brought under control. A school was kept safe. And two armed suspects were taken off the streets—because the right people were in the right place at the right time."
