Shreveport Man Arrested For Threatening to “Shoot Up” Downtown Venue

The Shreveport Police arrested a man Sunday after he allegedly threatened to open fire outside a crowded downtown venue and violently resisted Police.

SPD's Directed Patrol Unit were conducting foot patrol on Texas Street, where a concert featuring a local rap artist was happening. The venue was at maximum capacity, and Police advised the large crowd outside that no one else would be allowed in.

Patrol Officers saw a shirtless man, later identified as Terrance South, becoming increasingly belligerent. South allegedly placed his hand inside the waistband of his pants, appeared to clutch an unknown object, and stated, “I’m about to shoot this bitch up.”

After that, Police saw South walking through the crowd toward the venue’s front entrance.

Police believed South could be armed and that an active-shooter situation might be imminent, and SPD Officers immediately intervened. As officers attempted to handcuff South to detain him, he allegedly pulled away and began physically fighting with several Officers.

Following the struggle, SPD took South into custody. A search determined that he was not carrying a gun.

South suffered a small cut to his face during the struggle. He was evaluated and medically cleared at the scene by the Shreveport Fire Department before being taken to the Shreveport City Jail.

South was booked on the following charges:

-Terrorism

-Resisting a Police Officer with Force or Violence

"Threats of mass violence are not jokes, especially when made outside a crowded venue. Officers acted immediately based on the threat and South’s actions, potentially preventing panic, injury, or a far more dangerous confrontation."
