During the investigation, SPD Officers were told that the juvenile victim had been sent inappropriate messages and videos by a man that the juvenile knew. The suspect was identified as 30 year-old Ronald Mahoney. The victim also told Police that a physical assault had occurred as well.

Mahoney was detained and taken to SPD's Sex Crimes Unit for further investigation. Detectives were able to find evidence consistent with the allegations from the victim.
