Shreveport Lights Up Red River For America 250 Kickoff
Shreveport is getting an early start on America’s 250th birthday, and the first big community celebration will bring music, food, kids’ activities, and a laser light show to the Red River District on Friday, May 29.
Red, White & Boom Starts Friday Downtown
The city’s Red, White & Boom event begins at 5 p.m. in the Red River District and serves as the official kickoff for Shreveport’s America 250 celebration.
SPAR Director Shelly Ragle told KEEL News that the goal is to give families a fun way to begin celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
“We’re very excited,” Ragle said. “We hope that everyone will come down and join us.”
The event is expected to run into the evening, with live entertainment, local food and drink specials, and activities aimed at both children and adults.
Family Fun, Food, and Free Popsicles
Families will find plenty to do downtown. Ragle said the celebration will include face painting, balloon artists, stilt walkers, and a nine-hole LED putt-putt setup for kids.
The first 500 children will also receive a free red, white, and blue popsicle, provided by Brookshire’s. A snow cone vendor is also expected to be on site for anyone who misses the early giveaway.

Red River District tenants are joining the celebration with patriotic specials, including hot dogs, themed treats, and other food options.
Live Music and a Laser Show
Live music begins at 5 p.m. with line dancing, followed by the Shreveport Regional Jazz Ensemble. The Curtis Mills Experience is also scheduled to perform later in the evening.
One of the biggest highlights will come around 8:15 p.m., when Shreveport brings a patriotic laser light show to downtown. Ragle said the Texas Street Bridge lighting is expected to coordinate with the celebration as well.
Security and Parking
Ragle said the city has worked with Shreveport Police and the Marshal’s Office to help make the event safe for families.
Parking will be available in casino garages, the garage near Riverview Theater, and nearby surface lots. Ragle said surface parking should be free after 5 p.m.
