SHREVEPORT, LA- SPD Continues to Take Firearms Off the Streets

The Shreveport Police Department remains committed to reducing gun violence in our community by taking firearms out of the hands of those who cannot legally possess them. In recent days, SPD officers have made multiple arrests, recovering firearms during various incidents:

SPD

• October 14, 2024: Officers responded to a loitering call at 4345 Illinois Avenue. The caller reported a group of males with firearms on the premises. Utilizing the Real-Time Crime Center, officers located 21-year-old Zachary Ruybal, who was found carrying two firearms in a firearm-free zone. Ruybal was charged with negligent carrying of a firearm and possession of a gun in a firearm-free area.

• October 13, 2024: SPD officers arrested 33-year-old Donald Clark during a traffic stop at Market Street and Travis Street. Clark was found in possession of a firearm and narcotics and was charged with possession of a handgun with narcotics, along with multiple other offenses.

• October 12, 2024: Officers arrested 36-year-old Tavaseza Collins at Bolinger Street and Samford Avenue. Collins, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a handgun and was charged with felon in possession of a firearm and resisting an officer.

SPD

• October 8, 2024: Officers arrested 29-year-old Jamaria Cornelious after locating a stolen vehicle at 7100 Mansfield Road. Cornelious was charged with resisting an officer, felon in possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of a stolen vehicle.

• October 9, 2024: During a traffic stop at Hollywood Avenue and Ledbetter Street, officers arrested 43-year-old Michael Ghoston after discovering a firearm and illegal narcotics. He was charged accordingly.

SPD

• October 11, 2024: Officers conducted a traffic stop at 3200 Greenwood Road, leading to the arrest of 54-year-old Andamore Jackson and 29-year-old JB Smart. Both men, convicted felons, were found in possession of a firearm and arrested for that offense.

SPD

• October 13, 2024: 29-year-old Richard Martin was arrested for illegal carrying of weapons, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. Martin was stopped by SPD patrol officers while driving southbound on the 200 block of North Market Street with the vehicle's hood partially raised, making it unsafe.

The Shreveport Police Department remains steadfast in its mission to remove illegal firearms from our streets and ensure the safety of our community. We will continue these efforts to prevent gun violence and hold those accountable who are prohibited from possessing firearms.
