UPDATE: Coroner Identifies Shreveport Officer Killed in Wreck
UPDATE: The Caddo Parish Coroner has identified the Shreveport Police Officer killed in a wreck Friday afternoon in west Shreveport. He is 37-year-old Matthew Rhoden. His blue sports car hit the front of a van that had turned into his path. The sports car ran off the roadway and veered into a vacant house and rolled over.
Another police officer in the car with Rhoden was also seriously hurt.
SHREVEPORT, LA - A sad day for the Shreveport Police Department. An SPD officer was killed in a crash in West Shreveport. The accident happened on West 70th at Broadacres just after 2pm on Friday.
One officer was pronounced dead at the scene while the other officer was rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries.
State Police have been called in to help investigate this fatal crash. SPD is asking for prayers from the community for this police officer and the family.
City Councilwoman Ursula Bowman has issued this statement:
I am heartbroken to learn of the tragic accident in District G that claimed the life of a dedicated City of Shreveport police officer and left another citizen seriously injured. This devastating news is a profound loss for our community. I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family of our brave officer, who selflessly served and protected our city. Their courage and commitment to duty will never be forgotten. I urge the entire City of Shreveport to join me in mourning this loss and to keep the families affected in our thoughts and prayers.
