SHREVEPORT, LA    Shreveport Police Investigate Homicide

On July 15th, 2024, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Shreveport Police Patrol Officers responded to a shots fired call at Westover Street and Velva Street. While responding, officers observed two vehicles leaving the scene in opposite directions on Hearne Avenue. Officers attempted to stop both vehicles, but neither yielded to emergency lights or sirens.

Vehicle #1 fled southbound at a high rate of speed, and the driver ultimately lost control, crashing off the roadway in the 6000 block of Hearne Avenue. Officers acted quickly and learned that the driver, 24-year-old Demond Taylor, not only survived the accident but fled on foot. A short track by SPD K9 led to Taylor being located and arrested.

Taylor was found to be armed with a firearm and was charged with one count of aggravated flight from an officer, one count of property damage, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of resisting an officer.

The other vehicle continued to a local area hospital. Upon arrival, an officer found a male suffering from a gunshot wound. The male was ultimately pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The investigation into this homicide is ongoing.
