Shreveport Police Catch Felon with Firearm at Traffic Stop

SHREVEPORT, LA- Arrest of Convicted Felon by Proactive Patrol Officer
On May 11, moments before midnight, Shreveport Police Department patrol officers conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Dunlap Street and Hearne Avenue. During the stop, officers identified a firearm in the possession of the driver, 27-year-old Fredreis Vercher.
Upon further investigation, it was determined that Vercher was a convicted felon, thus prohibited from possessing a firearm. Thanks to the vigilant actions of the Shreveport police officers Vercher was arrested on the scene.
Vercher faces one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additionally, the seizure of the firearm prevented another potentially dangerous situation, as it was in the possession of someone legally prohibited from having it.
The Shreveport Police Department commends the proactive efforts of its patrol officers in ensuring the safety and security of the community. We remind citizens that reporting suspicious activity can help prevent crime and keep our streets safe.
Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
