SHREVEPORT, LA-  Shreveport Police Department Cracks Down on Gun-Related Crimes

The Shreveport Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Wayne Smith, remains steadfast in its efforts to combat gun-related crimes and keep firearms out of the hands of those intent on causing harm or those legally prohibited from carrying them.

On May 19, 2024, patrol officers arrested 25-year-old Lagregory Burns. Burns was found to have outstanding warrants for being a felon in possession of a firearm and theft of a firearm.

On May 16, 2024, officers responded to a call concerning a suspicious person and apprehended 21-year-old Kentress Washington. Washington was discovered with a handgun in his pocket. He was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

On May 15, 2024, members of the Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Abatement Team arrested 33-year-old Kentrell Baker.  Baker faces charges for handling a machine gun, illegal carrying of weapons, and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

These arrests underscore the department's commitment to taking decisive action against convicted felons found in possession of firearms. The Shreveport Police Department will continue to prioritize the safety of the community by addressing these serious offenses.

We are required to remind that all suspects are innocent until found guilty.
