On June 28th at approximately 8:15 pm, Shreveport police officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2900 block of Amherst Street. The vehicle refused to stop, leading officers on a pursuit through the neighborhood. The vehicle came to a stop at West Canal Blvd. and Dollarway Street, where the driver exited the vehicle and pointed a rifle at the pursuing officer. The second suspect fled from the other side of the vehicle.

Officers were able to locate a residence where the two juveniles had run into. Detectives with the Shreveport Police Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene and ultimately arrested a 14-year-old armed with a rifle and a 16-year-old. The 14-year-old was arrested for aggravated assault upon a police officer, aggravated flight, and resisting an officer. The 16-year-old was arrested for one count of resisting an officer.

Chief Smith would like to thank his officers for their outstanding work and is beyond grateful that none of our officers were injured in this senseless act. He also wants the community to know that these officers' swift actions undoubtedly prevented the juveniles from committing further acts of violence.

The Shreveport Police Department urges citizens to know where their children are, what they are doing, and who they are with. It may just save a life.
