Shreveport Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Accident
Yesterday, Shreveport Police Department responded to a major crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at E. Dalzell Street and Youree Drive.
When SPD got to the scene, they found members of the Shreveport Fire Department already were already there rendering medical aid to the pedestrian. The victim was transported to a local hospital but died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The investigation showed a vehicle driving southbound on Youree Drive hit the pedestrian while he was in the roadway. After being hit by the first car, a second vehicle also struck the person lying in the roadway.
Crime Scene Investigators were called to the scene to assist in confirming the identity of the victim. SPD’s DWI Unit also came to the scene, and both drivers voluntarily provided blood samples as part of the investigation.
The deceased person was later released to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office.
At this time, no wrongdoing is suspected by either driver, and the investigation remains ongoing.
From SPD:
"The Shreveport Police Department would like to remind the public that pedestrian safety remains a growing concern on our roadways. Pedestrians are strongly encouraged to use designated crosswalks and remain alert when crossing busy streets. Likewise, drivers should remain vigilant for pedestrians, especially along heavily traveled corridors such as Youree Drive."
