Shreveport, LA has a long list of icons when it comes to the music industry. From Lead Belly to DJ Fontane to Kix Brooks to Van Cliburn. But, maybe the most recognizable of them all is James Burton. James has had one of the most impressive careers. From being named by Elvis the leader of the "Takin' Care of Business" band to playing on monstrous tracks like Merle Haggard's "Working Man Blues" to be names as major influence from music royalty like Keith Richards, there's not much James Burton hasn't accomplished.

Well, as of today, we can officially add another accolade to Burton's lengthy resume - the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Shreveport Native James Burton Named to Country Music Hall of Fame

James Burton has already been named to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And rightfully so. From influencing the likes of Keith Richards (who inducted him into the Rock Hall of Fame) to bringing the Fender Telecaster into prominence, James has accomplished a lot.

However despite his Rock and Roll legacy, at his core, he was a country musician. He got his big break playing guitar at the Louisiana Hayride. He played on massive hits from the likes of Merle Haggard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Glen Campbell, John Denver, Claude King, Townes Van Zandt, Vince Gill and countless others.

So yeah, he had a great rock and roll career with Elvis & Ricky Nelson. But, also had a tremendous career in other forms of music - namely country.

And this year, he's getting his just due being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame alongside Toby Keith & John Anderson. Burton was selected and elected to the Hall under the "Recording/Touring Musician" category.

Burton, Toby Keith and John Anderson join elite company in the Country Music Hall of Fame. With these latest additions, only 155 members. Inductees are chosen by CMA’s Hall of Fame Panels of Electors, an anonymous body handpicked by the CMA Board of Directors.

Legendary Musicians Who Rocked The Hirsch In Shreveport

Here's a sample of the legendary musical acts who have played Shreveport's Memorial Coliseum over the last 60 years. The Hirsch was basically the homefield for bands like Van Halen and ZZ Top, who regularly put the Hirsch near the top of their tours. For that reason, we're actually not going to feature them on this list, because they were basically "house bands" for Shreveport...and that's NOT a bad thing.
