It has been a season full of ups and downs for the Shreveport Mudbugs. At times this year, they looked like they were destined to repeat as Robertson Cup Champions. At other moments, they looked completely inept and lost. Unfortunately, Sunday night  when they needed a win the most, they looked more like the latter than the former.

The Mudbugs squared off with the Amarillo Bulls Sunday night in a Game 5 match up for the Southern Division. Winner takes the South and goes on to the next round of the Playoffs in Minnesota. Loser goes home in defeat. Unfortunately, the Bulls showed up ready to play while the Bugs looked like babes headed to the slaughter house.

The Bulls soundly defeated the Bugs 6-0. In fact, soundly might be an understatement. The Bugs were barely able to fire off 29 shots to Amarillo's 41. The Bugs also were not able to cash in on any of their 5 power play opportunities. It was just a disaster from the opening puck drop. The Bugs appeared as if they forgot they had a game to play while Amarillo's stars imposed their will. To put it simply: the Bugs were outclassed, out played and straight up embarrassed.

With all that said, the Mudbugs had a better year than anyone expected. They were a young team with little experience coming into the season, but near the end of the year, were able to put something together and make a playoff run.

The Bugs have a good foundation to build upon for next year. With an injection of new talent to the gained experience of returning players, the Mudbugs could look to be Championship contenders again in the 2019-2020 season.
